How Placement works
Placement helps us find a comfortable starting point, so your child can work on the skills they need next. It is not a pass-or-fail achievement test.
- Tell us about the learner. Add your child to your account and open their programme.
- Work through the guided questions and activities. A parent or tutor supports the learner and records the responses.
- Establish the starting point. The activities help identify the skills your child is ready to explore next.
- Follow the Learning Plan. Once you have joined the programme, your plan shows the books to use next.
- Print, teach and review. Practice, progress updates and the relevant Checks help determine the next step.
What changes at age 11?
Children under 11 work with an adult. From age 11, children can have their own learner account. A parent or tutor still guides the starting-point activities.
Assessment and Placement have different jobs
A public assessment can give you an initial idea of your child's skills. When you join a programme, guided Placement activities help find where to begin.
